Lafayette County

Lafayette County was founded on January 31, 1846 from Iowa County. The county was named in honor of Gilbert du Motier, marquis de La Fayette (1757-1834), a French general in the American Revolutionary War.

This is a statutory office with the position of Register in Probate filled by judicial appointment.
